Valkurstead: A Brief Description
Valkurstead is a port city located on the Iounian Bay. Its location relative to Moetown is about 105 miles West across the bay though to travel to Valkurstead, one would have to travel north and then west and then south. The journey on average by foot this way takes around 5 days (150 miles). The city consists of Valkurstead proper which is a fortified city with a 20 foot tall stone wall encompassing the perimeter of the city, farms and rural settlements outside the city to the North and East, and a large port just South of the fortified core of the city. For all practical purposes, the fortified city and the port are usually referred to as Valkurstead and the outlying farm land is known as the "Valkurstead Fields".
The city thrives on trade and commerce and much of it's economy is driven by those who sail the seas. They bring in fish, whale, and sometimes goods from other regions of the continent. It is quite reputable for its port which is very large and can hold many ships. The city is ruled by a king who resides within the walls of the city in his castle. They have a strong military and navy which secure its borders, protects it's people, and enforces the King's laws.
A Short History of Valkurstead
Valkurstead was founded as a village by the sea roughly 400 years ago. The people lived off of the bounty of the ocean and many took to the sea as fishermen. Over time, they did what all good civilizations did: generate a surplus of goods and formed the beginnings of commerce. Soon, enough men took to the seas and brought enough food for some people to choose different professions. Farms developed and agriculture began to thrive. Though this created a tension between sea-fairing and field tending citizens, the town remained peaceful and flourished.
